Gitane Factory Virtual Drive By

Post by sandranian »

Want to see the Gitane factory and current Cycleurope HQ, but can't afford the airfare or the time off to travel to France? Through the miracle of modern science and thanks to Al Gore, inventor of the internet, now you can see the facades of the factories from the comfort of your own computer terminals!

Machecoul, France: The original Gitane Factory (1954). The old part of the factory has the stucco facade. Gitane added 2 of the "peaked" roof sections later. The last two (furthest as you look at it from this vantage point) may or may not have been part of the Gitane factory. In any case, they were added after 1954. You can see a picture of Gitane's founder, Marcel Bruneliere, standing in front of this factory astride his "Gitane" here: http://www.gitaneusa.com/history.asp
Today, it appears to be an auto garage and other uses.

Machecoul, France: The "New" Gitane Factory (Circa 1966)

Romilly sur Seine, France: Cycleurope HQ and former Peugeot factory
