Mt VENTOUX with my 1977 GITANE TDF

Post by Papik »

It is an original 1977 TDF model, I have just changed the crankset for a triple "STRONGLIGHT 99 bis" with the front derailleur for triple , and I have put LYOTAR alloy pedals, and two MICHELIN "dynamic classic" tyres. weight: 10,3 kgs (near 22,5 lbs)

With my elder son (with his last model TREK) we have climb this mythic summit this monday...

We start from BEDOIN for a 19 kms climb...

After 3kms, I was with 30-24 ratio , and this was the ratio for all the climb...

The climb is dificult when we start from Bedoin, it is more easy when we start from SAULT .

During the climb, we are in a forest during 13 kms and it is near 10%  to the "Chalet Reynard" .

After, we have a 6 kms climb on the white stones , to the summit , with 8 and 10% .

Going downhill, the speed was 60-70 kmh and the MAFAC brakes was excelents...

This GITANE was the one and only steel frame this day on the Ventoux, all the other bicycles was carbons or alloy ...

I can say it was excelent !
